Mesothelioma

Mesothelioma (or, more precisely, malignant mesothelioma) is a rare form of cancer that develops from cells of the mesothelium, the protective lining that covers many of the internal organs of the body. Mesothelioma is most commonly caused by exposure to asbestos. The most common anatomical site for mesothelioma is the pleura (the outer lining of the lungs and internal chest wall), but it can also arise in the peritoneum (the lining of the abdominal cavity), the pericardium (the sac that surrounds the heart), or the tunica vaginalis (a sac that surrounds the testis).

Mesothelioma is a highly malignant type of cancer , some types of cancer there are benign and malignant it all depends on the name and type. Already known by the doctors ali that mesothelioma is a type of malignant cancer and malignant .Once I learn more about mesothelioma profiles on wikipedia and some other sites that also explains what it meothelioma , and some sources it was so incredibly open my mind about a rare disease but for now many are exposed mesohelioma .

Most people who develop mesothelioma have worked in jobs where they inhaled or ingested asbestos fibers, or were exposed to airborne asbestos dust and fibers in other ways. Washing clothes of a family member who worked with asbestos also creates a risk for developing mesothelioma. Unlike lung cancer, there seems to be no association between mesothelioma and tobacco smoking, but smoking greatly increases the risk of other asbestos-induced cancers.

Signs and symptoms of mesothelioma include shortness of breath due to pleural effusion (fluid between the lung and the chest wall), chest wall pain, and constitutional signs such as unexplained weight loss. The diagnosis may be suspected based on chest X-ray and CT scan findings, but must be confirmed either by examining serous effusion cytology or with a biopsy (removing a sample of the suspicious tissue). A thoracoscopy (inserting a tube with a camera into the chest) can be used to acquire biopsy material, and allows the introduction of substances such as talc to obliterate the pleural space (a procedure called pleurodesis), preventing more fluid from accumulating and pressing on the lung. Despite treatment with chemotherapy, radiation therapy or sometimes surgery, mesothelioma carries a poor prognosis. Research about screening tests for the early detection of mesothelioma is ongoing.

Actually what is Mesothelioma Cancer ? Mesothelioma is a rare cancer that comes from mesothelium . the protective lining that covers the internal organs of the body . Mesothelioma occurs when cells begin to divide uncontrollably mesothelium . They can begin to invade and destroy nearby tissue and organs and may gradually spread to other parts of the body .There are approximately 2,500 cases of mesothelioma are diagnosed in the U.S. each year and most of them traced because it comes from exposure to asbestos work . Asbestos is the cause of mesothelioma cancer and the main risk factor . Higher incidence of this cancer in men infected than women and most of the victims are older than 65 , but the disease can strike at any age .Although the use of asbestos has declined substantially in recent years , this has not led to a substantial decrease in the incidence of mesothelioma cancer .

The reason is because there is a latency period of asbestos exposure to disease diagnosis , approximately 20 to 50 years the symptoms of mesothelioma cancer develops after exposure to asbestos .We need to know What is the mesothelium ? Mesothelioma is derived from mesothelium membrane consists of two layers of cells . One layer surrounds the organs while others form a sac around it .

There is a lubricating fluid produced by the mesothelium between the two layers that help in the movement of the organ slid against each other .Depending on the location in the body , the mesothelium is known by a different name . Mesothelial tissue that covers the abdominal organs is known as the peritoneum and the membrane covering the lungs and chest cavity called the pleura .

Mesothelium covers and protects the heart is known as pericardium .In the UK alone nearly 2300 people per year are diagnosed with mesothelioma cancer . At least 3,500 people in the UK die each year from lung cancer related to asbestos and mesothelioma cancer as a result of past exposure to asbestos fibers .Most cases of mesothelioma begin in the pleura or peritoneum . However , cancer can invade the tunica vaginalis , which is a sac that surrounds the testis and pericardium .
